Detailed description of Country Club At The Legends, CLOSED 2013

Country Club At The Legends, is a Private, 27 hole golf facility located in Eureka, Missouri. Country Club At The Legends has three 9-hole golf courses. These courses can be combined in pairs to form three different 18 hole course challenges. The nine-hole courses are The One Course, The Two Course, and The Three Course.

Country Club At The Legends opened in 1989 as an 18 hole course. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. The front and back 9 of original 18 hole course are the current One Course and Two Course respectively. The 3rd nine, The Three Course was added in 1998 expanded the facility to 27 holes. The Three Course was designed by Gary Kern

The Three Course, the new nine holes, are slightly more difficult than the original eighteen. The topography is also very similar to the original eighteen. The original front nine was cut right out of the woods. The original back nine is more open, but has more water hazards in play than on the front nine. The signature hole is #8 on the One Course, a 209-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot to an island green.

The One Course at the Country Club at the Legends plays to 3,495 yards from the back tees for a par of 36.

The Two Course at the Country Club at the Legends plays to 3,533 yards from the back tees for a par of 36.

The Three Course at the Country Club at the Legends plays to 3,384 yards from the back tees for a par of 35.

Country Club At The Legends closed February 1, 2013.

The St. Louis Business Journal reported that Club members received a January 30, 2013 letter from club officials saying that the 27-hole course has been losing money for several years and they were not willing to continue funding an unprofitable business.

The country club site has had financial ups and downs over the years. The clubhouse alone cost $5 million to build in 1989. According to St. Louis County property records, Legends Acquisition Co. LLC owns the 243-acre parcel that includes the country club. That property has an appraised value of $9.2 million and in 2012, the tax bill was $148,005, the Business Journal reported.
